VIGIL: Ni Una Más! Not One More!

Facebook Event Page

On May 12th, please join us at Kitchener City Hall for a vigil honoring the lives of missing, murdered, and lost Indigenous women, girls, and Two Spirit folks and their families. In light of the recent killing of Berta Cáceres in Honduras, we also seek to bring light to the many Indigenous women, girls and two spirit folks who have gone missing or been killed around the world, and how this is connected to larger systems of colonization.

We will be joined by Awasis who will be performing spoken word, in addition to Amy Miller who is the mother of Denise Bordeau.

We will also be joined by Fred Alvarado: a TV producer, independent documentary maker, and political analyst who works as a freelance journalist in Honduras for and Globo TV’s news programme “Mi Nacion.” Alvarado is a member of PEN Honduras and the winner of PEN Honduras/PEN Canada’s inaugural award for investigative journalism “Writing without Fear.” For three years Alvarado produced and hosted of a weekly documentary & interview TV programme called “Docufilmes” before self-censoring the program in September 2013, following the murder a colleague who had reported on local drug traffickers’ political connections. Alvarado has also received death threats because of his reporting.

Please be in touch with if you have any accessibility concerns. Bus fares will be provided, and children welcome.
